- 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
- 1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 cup ricotta cheese
- 1 cup chopped spinach
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Special equipment needed:
- Large pot
- Skillet
- 9x13 inch baking dish
- Mixing bowl
- Wooden spoon
- Aluminum foil

Step-by-step instructions:

1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.

2. Cook the lasagna noodles in a large pot of boiling salted water until al dente. Drain and set aside.

3. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, ground pork, onion, and garlic until the meat is browned and the onion is tender. Drain off any excess fat.

4. Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, salt, black pepper, red pepper flakes, nutmeg, and water to the skillet. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer. Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 10 minutes.

5. In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, chopped spinach, and Parmesan cheese.

6. Spread a thin layer of the meat sauce in the bottom of the baking dish. Arrange 3 lasagna noodles on top of the sauce. Spread half of the ricotta mixture over the noodles. Sprinkle with 1/2 cup of the shredded mozzarella cheese. Repeat the layers, ending with a layer of meat sauce and the remaining 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese.

7. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

8. Let the lasagna cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
