Apple Berry Pie Recipe

Ingredients with Measurements:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2/3 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
- 5-6 tablespoons ice water
- 4 cups thinly sliced apples
- 2 cups mixed berries (blueberries, raspberries, strawberries)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, diced
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 tablespoon coarse sugar

Special equipment needed:
- 9-inch pie dish
- rolling pin
- pastry brush

Step-by-step instructions:

1. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add in chilled and diced butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
2. Gradually add in ice water, one tablespoon at a time, until the dough comes together. Divide the dough into two equal parts and shape them into discs. Wrap them in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
3. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
4. In a separate mixing bowl, combine sliced apples, mixed berries, granulated sugar, cornstarch, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and lemon juice. Mix well.
5. Roll out one disc of dough on a floured surface to fit the bottom of the pie dish. Transfer the dough to the pie dish and trim the edges.
6. Pour the fruit mixture into the pie dish and dot with diced butter.
7. Roll out the other disc of dough on a floured surface to fit the top of the pie dish. Cut slits on the top to allow steam to escape. Brush the edges of the bottom crust with beaten egg and place the top crust over the fruit mixture. Trim the edges and crimp to seal.
8. Brush the top crust with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sugar.
9. Bake for 50-60 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
10. Let the pie cool for at least 30 minutes before serving.
